When it comes to household items, how often do we even really think about spending on them before we do? The truth is that we are so used to them that we think it is normal to buy them and spend all that money. We hate to burst your bubble, but a lot of these items are just a money-making technique and won’t really be useful for you. To help you out, we have made a list of the top 11 household items that are a waste of money.

1. Warranties
One of the biggest household items that are a complete waste of money is warranties. You don’t realize that companies are making a large amount of profit by selling you these warranties, but they won’t really benefit you. You would be surprised to know that many of these warranties have a fine print that you may not have even noticed, and they’re simply making a fool out of you. Think about it for a second, when was the last time you even used a warranty? Instead of buying a warranty, make sure to be high-quality items.
2. Magazines
With everything going digital, when was the last time you picked up a magazine? If you already have a subscription to one, you may want to cancel it because you can read everything online for free, so there’s no point in paying for it. Print is dying, and it’s time to embrace the digital.
3. Bottled Water
It’s expensive and completely useless. It costs so much more than tap water, which you can have for free. You might argue that bottled water is a lot more convenient; however, that’s not entirely true. You can refill your bottle with tap water, and it’ll do the trick. Let’s not forget how bad bottled water is for the environment, especially when it is in the form of plastic. So do yourself and the planet a favor and stop wasting your money on bottled water.
4. Air Fresheners
This is another item that is an absolute waste of money. Yes, it makes the place smell better, but there are so many alternative ways in which you can do that without spending as much. Whether it’s natural remedies like the scent of flowers and plants or scented candles, they are a much better option than air fresheners.
5. Cable
What’s the point of cable anymore when you can simply watch the same stuff online? Cable packages are expensive and so outdated. You’d much rather pay for Netflix or Hulu, which are cheaper and have plenty of options for you to pick from. It’ll be just like cable, but you get to pick what you want to watch. If you have a smart TV, then you can automatically watch them on it so it’ll feel just like cable. If you don’t, you can connect it through a Chromecast.
6. Kitchen Gadgets
Yes, they may seem cool and useful but don’t go by looks. Kitchen gadgets are the most useless things you can spend your money on. Most of them are just money-making items, all of which you can do with your hand. For instance, you don’t need a banana slicer or egg peeler; you can do all those things quite easily with your hand. Save your money and buy some useful items instead that you’ll actually end up using.
7. Robotic Vacuums
They may seem fancy, and all but are they really worth your money? These high-tech items come with plenty of problems that you are probably unaware of. For instance, did you know that they can’t clean stairs? They are also different from traditional vacuum cleaners and don’t have the same kind of suction power. You’re much better off getting a traditional vacuum cleaner instead, so don’t fall for the fancy cooler one and waste your money.
8. Baby Toys
You buy them for your baby but trust us when we tell you that your baby doesn’t care. They are too small to appreciate these fancy toys. To be honest, your baby won’t know the difference between a ball and lemon; it’s all one and the same for them, so don’t waste your money on these. You would rather save that money for your baby’s future when they can actually appreciate it. Babies will find a way to entertain themselves so worry not or give them baby-friendly items lying around in the house.
9. Paper Towels
Not only are they barely used and completely useless, but they also add to waste, which is bad for the environment. It’s the 21st century, and there are so many alternative environmentally-friendly ways for you to dry your hands. Not to mention, they are super overpriced! Washcloths, for instance, are a much better alternative.
10. Cleaning Products
All those extra fancy cleaning products that you’re tempted to buy at the supermarket won’t do you any good. All they will do is take up more of your cabinet space. You can easily make them at home and at least this way you will be more aware of what goes into them. It is simple and easy and so much cheaper!
11. Name Brand Items
Just because it has a name brand doesn’t make it any better. All you should care about is quality, so if a non-brand gives you the same quality, go for that and save your money. This goes for anything from medicines to foods and other products. A lot of them just look good but aren’t even worth it, so don’t be fooled with all the branding.
Each of these 11 household items is a waste of money, so don’t bother spending on them! We know that you may be used to them or the idea of them, but once you make the switch, you’ll be saving so much of the money that you can then spend on stuff that’s actually worth it!
