What You Need To Know: Elon Musk’s Starlink

Nowadays, the only news that we hear is either of Elon Musk or Starlink. Do you not wonder why is the news channel beaming with Elon Musk being the richest man in the world and the internet services which the United States has approved or Starlink and its internet speed. For those who do not have any idea about Elon Musk and Starlink, let’s first start with an introduction to both.

    Elon Musk

Elon Musk is now a centi-billionaire and has just become the richest man in the whole world. He is a business magnate, engineer, and industrial designer. As well as the chief designer of SpaceX and is also the founder, CEO, and CTO. Musk is also an entrepreneur who co-founded the electronic payment firm PayPal.

He always believed that for people to survive, we have to become a multi-planet species. He always felt dissatisfied with the expensive rocket launchers. So, he founded Space exploration Technologies (SpaceX) in 2000 to make affordable rockets easily. The first two rockets had cost-efficient designs. SpaceX designed many different rockets for various tasks.

Elon Musk had always been interested in electric cars’; he became a major funder of Tesla Motors in 2004. Tesla, in 2006 introduced their first sports car, which would cover 0 to 60 miles per hour. And later on, they also made new models; some were affordable and some luxurious.

    Starlink

It is a satellite internet constellation that provides satellite internet access. SpaceX is constructing this satellite. This constellation will have thousands of mass-produced satellites that will be small, and all of them will be in low Earth orbit. This will work in combination with the ground transceivers. Starlink will provide high-speed internet to places where there is no access, or even if there is, it is unreliable and expensive. Starlink will now deliver beta services, domestically and internationally. It is also planning to expand its coverage globally.

    Elon Musk And Starlink

No one wants to put up with the cost of digging trenches, laying down fibers and cables, or even dealing with property disputes. This is the primary reason why rural areas face many challenges when it comes to internet access and also its speed. Elon Musk dreamt about a unique technology that would end the gap between the urban and the rural areas. It’s like a race that has started, but unlike the usual ones, this is a competition going on in space, and the final results would be beneficial for the whole world. Elon Musk plans to provide affordable internet services all around the world. Up until now, Starlink intends to reach the rural areas of Canada and the US.

    Where Has The Plan Reached?

SpaceX is certainly on a winning streak as it has an ambitious plan. Elon Musk plans to launch 12,000 satellites by 2027. Out of 12,000, he has already launched 820 Starlink Satellites working in orbit right now. That makes one-third of the total number, though it is not enough to provide broadband coverage yet, Elon Musk states that they are enough to start a full public beta test in a few months. The testers who are residents of North America have tested this connection. They have concluded that never have they ever seen such internet speed through a satellite. Not only does it help you upload or download fast, but it also has a low ping.

The United States has given their approval to the services, and the ones who are using it have received their kit for beta testing. The UK has also granted Starlink a license for competing against the other terrestrial internet companies like the BT Group and OneWeb.

Some people have been stating that they had received 0.5 megabits per second from BT Group, but now they have an average speed of 85 Mbps from Starlink.

What Do People Think About This Plan?

Many individuals are tired of the internet speed they receive. There was research in America, and the results are out. Nearly half of them would like to try the internet speed of Starlink.

    How Will It Work?

SpaceX has declared that the internet speed offered by Starlink will be faster and will have less latency.

Every satellite will communicate with at least four other satellites. This will be done by using lasers. This is good news, as it means that we will receive the data almost at the speed of light.

    How Fast Is The Internet?

The beta users of stain internet have reported that the download and upload speed is 104Mbps and 16 Mbps. Also, the latency would be 39 ms.

Starlink promises a data speed of 50-150 Mbps. Up until now, there are only some satellites in orbit. As soon as the satellites are up and working, it will improve the downloading speed and lower the latency.

    The Bottom Line

Everyone is eagerly awaiting to see whether all the promises that Starlink has made will come true or not. This dream of Elon Musk will benefit everyone. Let’s hope for the best and wait for our internet speed to be as fast as light soon.
